Hair loss and thinning hair can feel frustrating and overwhelming, but what if we looked at it as a message from the body rather than something we have no control over?
Our hair, much like our skin, reflects our internal health—whether it’s due to stress, circulation issues, nutrient deficiencies, or deeper imbalances like hormone dysregulation.
In my latest podcast episode, I take a holistic deep dive into hair loss from the perspective of Western herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Ayurveda. We explore:

How Ayurvedic & TCM traditions approach hair loss and vitality
If you’re experiencing excessive shedding, brittle strands, or slow hair growth, this episode is packed with insights and tools to help you support your hair from the inside out.

DIY Herbal Scalp Oil for Stronger, Healthier Hair
One of my favorite ways to nourish the scalp and stimulate circulation is with a deeply infused herbal scalp oil. This simple but effective blend combines burdock root and rosemary—two powerful hair-supporting herbs—with jojoba, argan, and castor oil.
Burdock Root: A traditional herb for scalp health and hair regrowth, burdock is antioxidant rich, rich in fatty acids, and anti inflammatory, perfect for supporting a healthy scalp environment.
Rosemary: This herb is well-known for its ability to stimulate circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the scalp, which may encourage stronger, faster-growing hair.
Jojoba Oil: A lightweight, non-greasy oil that closely mimics the scalp’s natural sebum, helping to keep the scalp hydrated without clogging pores.
Argan Oil: Rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, argan oil helps smooth, strengthen, and protect hair.
Castor Oil: A thick, deeply nourishing oil that helps seal in moisture and may support thicker hair growth when used consistently.
How to Make It (4-6 Week Infusion Method)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup jojoba oil
- 2 tbsp dried burdock root
- 2 tbsp dried rosemary
- 2 tbsp argan oil
- 1 tbsp castor oil
Instructions:
1️⃣ Prepare the infusion: Add the dried burdock root and rosemary to a clean, dry glass jar. Pour the jojoba oil over the herbs, making sure they are fully submerged.
2️⃣ Infuse naturally: Seal the jar and place it in a warm, dark place for 4-6 weeks, shaking gently every few days to encourage infusion.
3️⃣ Strain & add finishing oils: After the infusion period, strain out the herbs using cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. Add the argon oil and castor oil to the infused jojoba oil and mix well.
4️⃣ Store & use: Transfer to a dark glass dropper bottle. Use a few drops on the scalp 2-3 times per week, massaging gently for best results.
🔥 Shortcut: If you want a faster version, you can use the gentle heat method by placing the sealed jar in a warm water bath (double boiler) on low heat for 4-6 hours—but I love the slow infusion method for deeper herbal extraction!
How to Use This Scalp Oil for Best Results
- Massage a few drops into the scalp 2-3 times per week to encourage circulation.
- Use it as a pre-wash treatment—apply before shampooing for extra nourishment.
- Pair it with scalp massage or a Plum Blossom Hammer for an added boost.
